TRANSMISSION INSTALLATION

  • Remanufacturing is the ultimate form of recycling. Your unit has been thoroughly tested. We have made certain that there is no excessive noise, that the selection of ranges is smooth, and that the inching function (if applicable) works properly. We have added dye to the fluid to make leak detection more reliable.
  • Should you notice some residual oil on your transmission or converter, it is because after testing we cannot remove every drop of fluid. We have put in disposable caps to limit this seepage.
  • If your equipment has a remote mounted filter, please change it as a part of the installation process. All lines leading to and from the transmission should be thoroughly cleaned. Contaminants from the transmission that was removed are lodged in these lines and will be deposited in the transmission you are installing if your flushing is not done carefully. The cooler may also need to be flushed due to contaminants. This is an ideal time to replace lines and/or a questionable cooler.
  • Your transmission should be tagged with the pressure readings from our testing procedure. Once your unit is installed, you are welcome to check your pressure readings against ours. If there is a variable of more than 10 psi on any reading, please phone our technical support department to discuss whether this may be a problem.
  • Your transmission should be tagged with recommended fluid type. If you need an estimate of the capacity, please phone. A brief description of various fluid types is below.

Fluids

atf

This stands for Automatic Transmission Fluid. Usually colored red, use fluid that specifies Dexron or Mercon type

Universal (uth)

Early versions were called Universal Tractor Hydraulic or Universal Transmission Fluid. Many OEM's have developed their own brands of this style, because it is compatible with most automatic transmission components.

Hydraulic

This is the hydraulic fluid that is used in hoses and cylinders. It is often lemon-lime colored. Many styles of equipment share the fluid between the transmission and the hydraulic system. Look for a C3, C4 or C5 specification.

Gear lube

Most standard transmissions use 90-weight gear lube. Many transaxle style automatic transmissions have a seal between the output shaft and the differential. These units need gear lube in the differential assembly. If you are uncertain whether you need to fill both portions, please contact us.

Today you can't just reach for the old standby, ATF. The red fluid is now known as Dexron-Mercon. And it has been joined by UTH (Universal Tractor Fluid), motor oil, and C-4 hydraulic fluid.
The lip seals, seal rings, and oil seals of the current industrial transmission styles are sensitive to chemical additives. The correct fluid is essential to long transmission life.
